MCD had been going eight years and they’d achieved a lot in that time. What started out as a company that needed to shout to be heard, had grown into a company with credibility, a company that could lower their voice. Consequently, their identity was in need of a change. Our starting point for the logo ideas was the mix of work that MCD are involved in; they don’t just do architecture, they also offer interior and furniture design too.
How to get all this across was the conundrum. Our answer was a logo system that uses a motif, which adapts depending on the circumstance, and that can even be used as a decorative design itself. The three characters are hand-drawn, grounded in a simple set of rules, which we felt worked so well that they deserved the company of the whole alphabet.
